Profile

Senior ICT project manager with a technical background. I have worked in IT for 29 years and have led projects for 26 years.

I own van der Meij IT diensten, founded in 2006 and based in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands. As an independent project manager I lead ICT infrastructure projects for large international organisations and for mid-sized companies.

My strength is projects with a high degree of integration: the client’s own solutions that must work together with systems from external suppliers. I align technical execution with business objectives, surface bottlenecks early and keep operations running during delivery.

Clients engage me to set a project up properly or to get a stalled project moving again.

Working method

Every project goes through the same six steps. The depth of each step depends on size and risk.

  1. Intake and scope

    Record objectives, constraints, stakeholders and the current situation.

  2. Project foundation

    Business case, project plan, schedule, budget and risk analysis according to PRINCE2.

  3. Design and suppliers

    Have requirements and design prepared and reviewed. Run a tender and supplier selection where needed.

  4. Delivery and control

    Manage progress, issues and escalations. Inform end users in time and in concrete terms.

  5. Operational readiness

    Testing, acceptance and go-live. Hypercare in the first period after go-live.

  6. Handover and closure

    Handover to operations, decommissioning of the old environment and an evaluation.

    University of Professional Education Enschede. Chemical engineering with business administration. (1992 – 1997)
